Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis Concert on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 7:30 P.M.

Join the Philharmonic Orchestra at the Pike Performing Arts Center, 6701 Zionsville Rd., Indianapolis, in a concert featuring 20th Century works that explore our quest to reach and understand the sky above us.

George Walker's Icarus in Orbit and Gustav Holst's The Planets.  A review of the 2018 UK premier of Icarus in Orbit stated that this "symphonic poem has a very American confidence, with striding themes, decisive rhythms and bold orchestration describing vaunting ambition leading to precipitate fall."

Holst's symphony, The Planets, one of his best known works, is a series of mood pictures begun in 1914. The seven movements each portray the astrological traits of the seven known planets at the time, in order of distance from the Earth.

Listen & Learn, a pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor Orcenith Smith, begins at 7:00 P.M.
