SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19 AT 3:00 P.M.
Pike Performing Arts Center
6701 Zionsville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46268
Join the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis in a concert of 20th Century music by Leonard Bernstein, Paul Lincke, Wallingford Riegger, and Sir Edward Elgar that explores the intersection of rhythm and orchestration. Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story blends jazz and Latin rhythms to create an urban soundscape of postwar New York City. Riegger's energetic Dance Rhythms, Op. 58 is noted for its light-hearted mood. Lincke's "Berliner Luft" ("Berlin Air") is the unofficial anthem of Berlin and a favorite encore for the Berlin Philharmonic. The charming Serenade for Strings, Op. 20 was Elgar's anniversary present to his beloved wife.
Founded in 1941, the "Phil" is the premier non-professional orchestra in Indianapolis. Led by music director/conductor Orcenith Smith, the Phil plays 4 concerts at Pike Performing Arts Center and a free concert at Garfield Park annually.
